There's a moment I watch for every time friends land on the island. It's not the lei or the first plate lunch. It's the exhale ~ that one slow breath where the shoulders drop, the jaw unclenches, and somebody who was checking email in the rental car line suddenly remembers they have a body and it likes sunshine. We have a name for what happens in that breath. Beach mode: on.
